Ski and Snowboard Club
In my first few years studying at Hope College I noticed that there was a strong desire for there to be a ski and snowboard club, however no such club existed. I ended up discussing this with a few of my fellow students who also expressed this concern of the club not existing and we worked to make this club a reality. We started proper work towards this in January of 2015. Starting the club did come with its own set of challenges however. The first time that we presented the club to the Co-Curricular Activities Committee at Hope, we were unfortunately rejected. My fellow students and I worked hard the following year to make this club a reality and in December of 2015, we finally had our club fully accepted as an official club at Hope College. This taught me many things. First of all it helped me learn how to take rejection, and how to improve on an idea that was not perfect. It also taught me how to fully work a idea into a full fledged organization. Lastly starting the club taught me how to work with different levels of bureaucracy to establish something following the rules and values of the higher organization, in this case, Hope College.
Now that the club is an established entity, I work as the Vice President, as well as the Media and Marketing Chair of the club. As Vice President, I work with the rest of the executive board to make the club function with its day to day activities, as well as being a liaison for members of the club to help get their ideas to the executive board and to make sure they are satisfied as possible with what is going on with the club. As the Media and Marketing Chair for the club I work to run social media accounts for the club, as well as take professional photos and video for the club, when mother nature allows for trips to happen of course. Here, I was able to turn a passion I have into something productive on Hope College's campus.
